TONY ROBINSON has revealed he wants to make a new Blackadder series but there\u2019s a drawback: \u201cWe can\u2019t afford Hugh Laurie\u2019s salary.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 65-year-old actor, who played Baldrick in the TV\u00a0comedy\u00a0for six years during the Eighties, told Day & Night that he has been longing for another stab at the show and is confident that creator and lead star Rowan Atkinson fancies reuniting.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes I would but I don\u2019t think we\u2019d be able to afford Hugh Laurie\u2019s salary do you?\u201d he told us at the Chortle awards this week. \u201cRowan\u2019s said he\u2019d be up for it. The story always was that we\u2019d do one where Rowan, aka Blackadder, was the bastard son of Queen Elizabeth II who used to hang around the King\u2019s Road in the Sixties and had his own rock\u00a0band\u00a0including a drummer with no hair called Bald Rick. If ever that happened I\u2019d certainly be up for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robinson says he was riddled with self-doubt when making the series but now can see its worth as a British comedy great.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always used to beat myself up because I thought I was terrible and it was terrible. Just occasionally I\u2019ll catch a glimpse of it on TV and think, \u2018I\u2019m quite proud of that!\u2019 It\u2019s a nice feeling to have.\u201d<\/p>\n

However the Time Team host adds: \u201cEvery decade people say, \u2018Comedy isn\u2019t what it used to be\u2019 and I think that\u2019s totally disproved. The amount of good work on TV is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
